HA3 - Evaluation

Due to falling behind in my last assignment HA2 Lucozade Label Attractor, it was important that I produced a time management plan which shows where I’m unable to do work because of things outside of college, term time, free lesson etc.  I found filling in this plan hard because I wasn’t sure how to split it all up evenly, but using the plan has kept me well on track than it did before. It was useful thing to do, and I kept it updated every few weeks, because even though I used it, things changed around and I did some things probably not according to the plan. Also doing that meant it changed how much time I had to do stuff.

For task 2 we had to make research into Romeo & Juliet and Shakespeare.  This was a short but detailed task because we had to link it all together on how we could modernise Shakespeare. I spent too long on this task like the other one, and I not quite sure why. I enjoy putting mood boards together but I am very easily distracted and many factors in lesson can instantly distract me and it sways me away from doing the work. As well as mood boards, I made some mind maps and ideas generation which just shown the meanings of Romeo and Juliet, and how using ‘hip-hop’ can help modernise it which helps us create our final images. I then had to think of what scenes I was going to base my 6 final images on. It was hard to pick ‘key events’ of the film because I think they were all relevant, but I came up with my 6 ideas and was really happy with them.

I needed a big push to start Task 3 because this was where I actually started mocking up the images in Illustrator and creating them in Photoshop. Even though I’d been getting used to Illustrator and Photoshop since September, I found it difficult to approach the task. I made myself familiar with the pen tool and got down to drawing the images. I really thought about what I was putting in the images and they have all came out really good. At this point I had fell behind again and If I was to do anything different it would be to not have as much time off ill because it effected the rate at which I produced  my work. As well as creating the images, I made print screens of my work throughout to show the progress I was making each time. It shows evidence of me doing the work as well.

Unfortunately I didn’t hit the deadline for this assignment due to being off ill for about 2 weeks altogether, I did do some of the work at home but it was limited as to what I could do. When I finally finished the images I was so relieved. I just really wish that I hadn’t fell behind, because I was determined to keep on track throughout the whole project, but I’m happy with the end result.

HA2 - Evaluation

When I started this assignment, it seemed straight forward as i read through the tasks. Task 1 was basically just gathering research from the 3 organisations that we had to research, Brook, Youngminds and Frank. For this it was just mood boards that we had to create, but i feel like I spent too much time on these and fell behind a bit. It was a simple task to collect the research and write a few sentences and to what it expresses and should have been done in less time than it took. For task 2 we had to make more research into Lucozade so we could incorporate the meanings in with the 3 organisations. Again I spent too much on this and dragged it out over quite a few lessons. At this point I realised I have bad time management and was behind schedule on where I should have been with the work. For task 3, I found it hard to find some inspiration and ideas on manipulated imagery because I didn't have clue what I wanted mine to look like. In the end I found some that were unique and showed their interpretations clearly.

After I finished the research aspect of the tasks, I then had to do my own ideas generation to help me come up with ideas that I could use in my final pieces of work. I did an A3 sheet for each one and I came up with some really good ones. I made the mistake of going straight into making one of the logos first though, and not doing the ideas generation to help it flow, so it really confused me. So after I had finished the first label, I then to go back on myself and do the ideas generation. This helped me learn that you should always plan your work before you start on the practical of it, otherwise you’ll just fall behind like I did. Even though I fell behind I enjoyed this task, because it shown my imagination and how to generate ideas from nothing. After I had chosen my 3 ideas for my 3 labels, I then had to take images of what I wanted to be involved in the images and it all had to relate. I could have spent a bit more time on shooting better images with better ideas but I was happy with what id chosen and knew the finished result would be good anyway, so I didn’t change that. With the images I had to make a contact sheet on Photoshop which put them all on a document which I saved as JPEG and uploaded to my blog. This was a much easier way than uploading each picture separately, and it makes the work look much neater.

Once I had the images ready, all I had to do was to create my labels in Photoshop. At first I was stuck on how I could manipulate the images and I got lots of help off my tutor, but the end label was really good, He showed how using the slightest little effects could make a big difference on just one part of the image. It then made it easier for me to complete the other 2 labels with minima help. I did get distracted a lot throughout this project and I know I didn’t manage my time well, and if I was to do this again I would make sure that I made a project time management plan beforehand to keep me on track.

I put the image i wanted to use into photo shop and came up with my idea. I wanted the poker table to represent that they are both strong families, and my idea was to put there names Capulet and Montague on the back of the playing cards. My next idea was to give both families winning hands so it shows that one is not stronger than the other, they are both equal in competition.

I started with the basics first, i got the backgrounds in of the table and added the detail of the slots for the chips and the rims.

When it was time to put the cards on the table i found it really hard, i knew what i wanted to do but didn't know how to go about it. I researched winning hands in poker and gave them both one each, this was my own bit that i added to it, as this was not on the original picture.

This is my finished image and it cam out really well. I think it doesn't take long to get what the message is between the two families. The modern twist on it is that i used a poker table.

These are the two images i got, i felt they were relevant because it shows the love between two young lovers and how happy they are. I wanted to incorporate a sort of boom box into the image but it didn't look too right.

Here i have cut away the bottom of the image so its just the top halves of their body. Ive done the face the hair and the eyes on this screen shot. So I'm gradually getting there.

I added facial features to the image and softened some of the lines because some of them were a bit wonky.

This is my finished image. I like it but i know i could of put more effort in to making it better. It doesn't look as cartoon like now but i think it still send the message of love out there.

I have out the images i am going to use together as in image in photo shop. You can see the general idea of what I'm doing. I have drew a diary, and I'm going to write down the events leading up to Juliets death, for example her secret marriage to Romeo.

Ive now opened my starting image in Illustrator and started with the pen tool over the top of it. Ive done the background and started the basic diary layout for Juliet. Ive added text at the top and the line separators for the days of the week.

I added the days of the week under the lines so its easier to understand. I then added more text to make clear that Juliet married Romeo, I'm not sure whether to add more events to the other days yet.

This is now neary finished and I'm really pleased. I just need to add a few little extra details. I outlined the gun really well, and it fits in really well with the picture.

The images i have chosen is to symbolise the fight between Mercutio and Tybalt. I put the images together in photo shop first and then placed it in Illustrator.

I started off by added a backgroudn to the image, i added a few more layers and drew the face and their bodies and their hair.

Here Tybalt is holding a gun, and i found it really hard to draw that bit. I could of taken a bit more time to get the lines smoother and straighter but i am not confident with Illustrator so i find it hard.

This is my finsised image, Ive not added too much detail front he original picture because i didn't want to make it too hard for myself. I chose this scene because i think its a key event in the story and it show the relationship between the two families that they don't get on.

I mocked these images up in photo shop to represent Romeo and Juliet getting married by Friar Lawrence. I wanted to put the church in the background to bring it up to date to modern times.

Ive not got my image in photo shop. i started off by doing the background first because they are the main parts of the picture that are layed at the back. I've outlined the Church in the background and iv started to draw the Friar.

At this point i have doen all 3 people that symbolise Roemo, Juliet and Friar Lawrence. I need to sharpen up the edges and add the last details to the background and the humans.

For my final image i've chosen the final scene where Romeo and Juliet commit suicide. This is the image i put together in photoshop.

Ive gave the image a basic plain back groumd, and drew the sillouhettes of Romeo and Juliet. I thought about putting the detail in the face but think it will give a much better effect not to.

Ive drawn the bottle with the chemical symbol on it to indicate that it is poison,a nd that this is what juliet has taken. I then drew a ticking clock, this is relevant but it shows that time ticks away and before you know it it is too late.
